Week Two
HTML is not magic. It is simply a set of codified instructions that web browsers can read, interpret, and display. This week, you will explore the basics of how HTML works.
Read
- Chapter One: pp. 1-10 in your text book.
- Read URL Explained and visit some of the sites linked at the bottom of that page, trying to guess at the final destination based on what you read about URLs.
- Read about the protocols that make the internet work. Don't worry about understanding all of the technicalities. I just want you to have a general understanding of TCIP/IP
Practice
Visit w3schools to experiment with what you have read. On the HTML Examples page, follow the links for Basic Tags and play with the code. If you have trouble with this part of the assignment for the week, please email htmltalk with questions.
Create
Follow the directions from p. 11 to 13 and create your first web page! Then send it to me as an attachment. Even if you have an HTML editor, do this exercise in Notepad or another text editor. The first part of the semester you will be hand coding, but we will move on to using a web page editor eventually.
Due between January 26-29
