Week Three

Many web editing programs have a built-in FTP (file transfer protocol) program. For example, FrontPage users have a publishing feature within the program. Whether there is a built-in FTP or not, you still have to tell that software where to get files on your hard drive and where to place them on the server. For the rest of this semester, you will be placing your files on one of our servers here at WWTC, called cis1. For now, you will be using an FTP program to do that. Later, when we switch to using a web editing program, you may choose to use the built-in FTP

  1. Chapter Eight: pp. 141-144 and pp. 151-154 in your text book.
  2. Read FTP 101
  3. Read about the other Internet Protocols. Don't worry about memorizing all the acronyms! I just want you to see that there are a number of programs that route information on the internet.
